Dr. Robin Rose and Chris Cuomo Raising Awareness about Long COVID
Dr. Robin Rose is a double board-certified specialist in gastroenterology and internal medicine practicing precision medicine. She is the founder and CEO of Terrain Health, a longevity clinic in Fairfield County, CT. Her practice focuses on integrating systems biology with an innovative approach that requires a deep understanding of each person’s biochemical, genetic, and lifestyle factors in order to identify the root cause of a person’s health issues. For many years, Dr. Rose practiced what she refers to as “McMedicine,” seeing 30-plus patients daily, barely getting to know them, and unfortunately, was stuck in the one-size-fits-all healthcare paradigm of a “pill for every ill.” Spending 10-15 minutes with patients hardly gives you enough time to take a basic health history, let alone get to the root cause of a person’s illness and actually heal them. The doctor was never able to enjoy practicing the true art of medicine as she was caught in the conventional “sick care” model of symptomatic management- “name it, blame it, tame it.”
Working for a hospital-owned, multi-specialty practice, Rose saw patient after patient, with little flexibility and freedom to practice root cause analysis to truly help heal her patients.
Holistic vs. Conventional
Dr. Rose practices integrative medicine, combining evidence-based “holistic medical approaches with conventional.” The doctor believes that our health is heavily influenced by our epigenetics (how we interact and adapt to the world around us throughout our lives impacts our health). For example, what we eat, how often we move or exercise, how well and how long we sleep, and how we handle stress all influence our epigenetics and why we express health or disease. Only 10-15% of what happens to us is actually due to our “genetics” or genes, while epigenetics influences whether we are healthy or suffer from chronic illness 85% of the time.
Moreover, Dr. Rose explained how the gut microbiome plays a huge role in our health. The vast majority of chronic diseases stem from an unhealthy gut microbiome that is also influenced by our lifestyle choices, and in turn, our epigenetics.
She emphasizes the importance of prioritizing patient-centered care by creating healthcare interventions tailored specifically for each patient which are more predictive, precise, participatory and preventative. The idea is to heal patients from the inside out, and the New York City-area doctor most certainly is on to a trend in medicine involving the gut microbiome, lifestyle factors, and personalized, precision medicine.
AgeLess
Rose calls herself a “longevity doctor” and seeks to prevent, regress, and even reverse disease in her patients. The double board-certified specialist practicing functional/longevity medicine not only uses advanced diagnostics, therapeutics, and medical device technology to improve health outcomes, but focuses on optimizing lifestyle factors such as nutrition, movement, sleep, and stress to improve longevity.
According to Rose, one of the main drivers of disease is stress, a true physiological response, which impacts the body’s release of the stress hormone, cortisol. Perceived stress shifts us into “fight or flight.” Our primitive brain has not evolved to understand the difference between running from a white saber tooth tiger when we were hunter-gatherers centuries ago vs. the modern-day stressors of work, blue and other artificial light, lack of sleep, being stuck in traffic, and other stressful situations. As we age, we lose cortisol resilience, and therefore, persistently elevated levels of cortisol lead to increased glucose, eventually leading to insulin resistance which is one of the biggest contributors to chronic disease and rapid aging. If we can control cortisol by attaining quality sleep, making better food choices, moving our bodies, and learning how to manage stress better, we will, in turn, have a healthier gut microbiome, better cortisol regulation, and less insulin resistance, all helping us age less!
Spike Protein, Chris Cuomo and Long Covid
In March 2020, Rose became obsessed with the novel virus, SARS-CoV-2 and attended virtual webinars on COVID-19 given by world-renowned virologists around the globe. With no pharmacotherapeutics available for COVID-19, she worked tirelessly, spending hundreds of hours researching and reading the peer-reviewed literature on the anti-viral properties of natural compounds, subsequently writing a primer on COVID-19 exploring the use of polyphenolic and other natural compounds to treat (at the time) this deadly virus.
Dr. Rose has successfully treated thousands of patients with acute COVID-19 using repurposed medications and natural compounds since 2020. Her profound understanding of the pathophysiology of the acute disease laid the foundation for her ability to recognize, diagnose, and treat Long COVID or what she likes to call post-COVID and post-vax conditions.
Dr. Rose had noticed certain patterns in both the bloodwork and gut microbiome sequencing she regularly performed on all her patients starting in late 2020. She first noted these changes in patients who had previously been infected with COVID-19, and then she started to notice similar patterns in those who had never been infected but had been vaccinated. Many of these patients were missing “good bacteria” and had a variety of abnormal inflammatory biomarkers.
“Conventional medical physicians didn’t have the luxury to question,” Rose says, and she doesn’t blame or judge her colleagues for that as doctors in big healthcare systems have been relegated to just a few minutes with each patient. But Dr. Rose’s findings go further than many could comprehend during the pandemic. “The spike protein inside the cell is the main driver of the disease,” Rose adds, “and there’s been a tsunami of neuro-degenerative, cardiovascular, and autoimmune diseases caused by spike protein.”
As Rose said on New Nation during a segment with anchor, Chris Cuomo, “Long COVID is caused by the spike protein, thereby affecting many different systems and organs in the body, and as a result, the disease can manifest in many forms.” “It’s a beast,” Rose said.
It turns out Mr. Cuomo suffers from Long COVID and is raising awareness of the disease. The journalist and television personality has partnered with Rose on his Substack, building a Long COVID Community where they not only discuss evolving diagnostics, treatments, and other novel interventions for Long COVID but also have started to focus on longevity as they are both intertwined when it comes to their impact on health span.
Rose makes the point to Mr. Cuomo on Substack that the spike protein is an age accelerant because it causes the cells to become senescent, meaning that COVID-19 impedes the cell’s ability to divide and recover. Senescent cells can release chemicals that cause inflammation, which can also damage nearby cells. Senescent cells are why we age. When our healthy cells can’t function properly, we become more susceptible to infectious diseases, cancer, wrinkling skin, etc., all hallmarks of aging. This is what is happening in post-COVID conditions.
Thanks to Dr. Rose, TrialSite became acquainted with Mr. Cuomo, who has been a supporter of the news outlet. According to TrialSite’s founder, Daniel O’Connor, “Dr. Rose has been a supporter of what our media has tried to accomplish, chronicling objective, unbiased data and outcomes associated with research. We were introduced to Mr. Cuomo thanks to Dr. Rose, and he is literally the first mainstream media personality to open up and discuss issues such as vaccine injury in an objective way, the very first.”
Dr. Rose’s influence goes far, it turns out.
On the Substack page with Rose and Cuomo, people can post and talk about any issues they have surrounding post-COVID and post-vax problems. It is a refreshing space for medical freedom. What’s obvious is that Chris Cuomo and Dr. Robin Rose are now raising awareness of the seemingly ignored issue of Long COVID and post-vax conditions, as well as the unfolding, underlying root causes contributing to chronic disease and ways to mitigate this and optimize health span.
A large portion of the money that supports Mr. Cuomo’s Substack goes to fund treatment for those struggling with Long COVID.
Cuomo and Rose have a great partnership that appears to be making a big difference.
