Thyroid Issues and Conditions
Why Underactive Thyroid Issues Linger (and Why it Matters)
Most traditional methods treat only suppression or replacement of hormones. Few thyroid problems, however, have roots that go deeper than that, such as chronic inflammation, nutrient gaps, dysbiosis of the gut, stress, burden of toxins, or immune malfunction.
At Terrain Health, our approach is simple: true progress happens when you identify the causes of your thyroid condition, rather than covering them up with symptoms.
Some common underlying contributors to persistent thyroid issues include:
- Nutritional deficiencies (such as iodine, zinc, selenium, vitamin D, and iron)
- Gut disturbances, which compromise absorption and immune modulation
- Chronic stress and adrenal load
- Exposure to endocrine-disrupting compounds
- Defective conversion of T4 to T3
- Autoimmune reactivity, such as in Hashimoto’s or Graves’
We do know that not all thyroid problems are autoimmune, so individualized care for each patient is always tailored.
Thyroid Conditions: What to Look for
- Fatigue or low energy
- Dizziness or lightheadedness when standing up, unless
- Weight increase or inability to shed pounds
- Cold hands and feet or heat sensitivity
- Broken hair or brittle nails
- Constriction or slow movement
- Mood variations or agitation
- Irregular periods or problems with infertility
- Sudden tremor or tremulousness (in hyperthyroid cases)
Since whole-person problems are involved, symptoms are often neglected or misunderstood. That's why our approach is to treat the whole person.
We provide every patient with the best chance to live long, active, and happy lives.
